Reasons I Retired From IT

Just In Case Someone Else Is Googling For This…

I have a Canon Pixma ip1600 printer, and use Mac OS X. It appears the nozzles have been clogged in the printer, since I don’t use it daily, especially for color, but I spent over an hour trying to figure out why there is no accessible Utility for the printer to allow cleaning and other maintenance. As it turns out, the problem is having it plugged in through the Airport Router.

For those who don’t know, if you have an Apple Airport router, you can plug your printer into it, and then anyone in your house can print to your printer. This works well for the most part. As it turns out, you have to have the printer plugged into the USB in order to use the utility at all. Grr.

So the following is for the googlers: canon printer pixma mac os x macos mac osx utility how do you clean cartridge
EDIT: Just so it’s clear, I had to figure this one out entirely on my own. Canon, Apple, Google, etc were all of absolutely zero help. Does anyone else remember back in the day when you could type your problem into google and it would actually serve up an answer?
