sick as a dog

Sunday night, we all went out to pizza since Jen, Joe, and Mal gave up soda and pizza for lent. The pizza was great and all, but about 11pm I started getting a headache and sore throat. By 1:30am I was full on sick. I wonder how bad it would have been if I hadn’t decided to pound some Emergen-C immediately.

I’ve been well taken care of, but I still want to sleep all day. Hopefully I should be okay tomorrow.

It rained.

So it rained out the bbq. Today it was dry long enough to grill up some chicken and make smores for desert. They were awesome. It occurred to me that there’s no reason to go to fast food when I can just grill something up for less than the cost of a fake burger. Tomorrow night, turkey burgers.

Kebabage!

I am sure that’s not a real word. I got a new gas grill this weekend. Took us over 2 hours to put it together. Tonight, we initiate it with kebabs. Yay for grilled meat. (and finals being half over)

The Brady Rule Bungle

Posted in General Stuff, restored on March 18th, 2008 by otter – Comments Off

I completely forgot what the Brady Rule was (all of the prosecution’s evidence must be shared with the defense) and put down something about exclusion. Oooh man do I feel stupid.

My psych final went okay as well. Now I just have to finish my government essay (3 pages, should be pretty easy.) and then finish my study guide for Criminal Investigation and send it off to some classmates.

Running the Test

So it didn’t go so well. I aced the written test, but the Sgt. said they weren’t allowed to give us our scores. Said I did well though. It was all really easy for me. Mostly simple memorization and like 30 questions about constitutional law.

So I’m not taking it hard, or personally, and just continuing to hit the gym. There’s another hiring later this year, and there are about 10 other agencies in the nearby area that I wouldn’t mind working for either, though I am rather attached to my department.

At least I know I’ll be free for my cousin Tim’s wedding August 2nd.

Harry Potter and the Phoenix Laptop

Right after I posted that, my iBook G4 died. I turned my head and then it was color cycling white, red, green, blue, grey, dark grey, black… for ever. Tried to do a little research, but most of the detail is pretty vague. I called the mac store, and they said they could fix it (by sending it to Apple). It would cost around $400 and only take about a week and a half.
SO in otherwords, my new macbook should be here on Wednesday. I needed a new one anyway. When I was much calmer later, I disected my iBook and looked for the suspected troubled video chip. Couldn’t find anything wrong, so I put more pressure under the chip to keep it in place better. Reassembled, and it’s working fine now. Poof, now it’s working. If I can do that for my iBook G3 also, I’ll be in business. Off to school, then the dept, then the gym. Woohoo

6 Days

Posted in Running, restored on March 3rd, 2008 by otter – Comments Off

So the countdown continues. I have 6 days until my testing for the department. Top 50 written scores go on to the physical test (I am not expecting to be below the top 50 written, so there’s no stress there.) and then if you pass the physical, you get an interview.
So after running like a madman this weekend, the schedule is:
Monday: stairs till I want to die
Tuesday: run/walk minimum 2 miles. Minimum .25 miles @ 8 minute pace
Wednesday: stairs until I want to die
Thursday: run/walk 2 miles. Minimum .35 miles @ 8 minute pace
Friday: eat dinner and go to bed early. RELAX.
Saturday morning is the test. Let’s hope I’m not at work by noon.
